Just so you know, I will begin every post as if I'm writing a letter. I'm a firm believer in letter writing. I love the intimacy and coziness that it creates between a writer and reader. It helps me to feel like I'm writing to someone I know very well and therefore makes this act of writing into nothingness feel somehow ok.
With that out of the way, I'd like to share with you my recent trip to Donald Miller's Storyline Conference. HOLY CRAP!!! That's pretty much all that crossed my mind the entire conference and am still experiencing now that I'm home reviewing my notes. Speaker after speaker, motivational story after story, and line after line that brought tears, hope, and endless questions. Let me give you just a small taste of what I'm talking about:
- "What if you could be in a page-turner of a life?" - Donald Miller
- " God is not passive aggressive." - Donald Miller
- "Deeper is safer because we are all alike on the deep level." - Glennon Melton
- "Everything wonderful that has come into my life has come out of something tragic." - Scott Hamilton
- "Love is the only sustainable fuel for beautiful things." - Shauna Niequist
- "Courage is fear that is said with prayers." - Susan Isaacs
- "We are not our failures or our successes, we are our love." - Bob Goff
- "Live on the edge of yikes." - Bog Goff
I'm still not exactly sure what I want to do with my life, but have an insatiable desire to know all of these wonderful people so can pick up some of their talent, passion, and wisdom. In addition, I'm reminded that God's love is CRAZY, and maybe, just maybe, I will get to do something awesome with my life.
And now for something embarrassing. Throughout the conference, I was convinced that I should throw myself into one of the following careers:
- Missionary - After all, what's a Christian conference without thinking that you should drop everything and go to Africa?
- Actress - I hate performing and feel awkward as the center of attention, but what if I have this incredible talent lurking within? I've always wanted to be on the Ellen Show! And I could be a great Christian influence in Hollywood!
- Donald Miller's creative assistant - I may or may not be still considering this. My grand plan is to create a video as my job application. After all, I live in Nashville. I like Storyline. I'm creative... and talk about convenient for both of us!
- Writer - And thus the reason for starting this blog...
Well, reader, that's just a small taste of what happened to me this weekend with the Storyline Blog. Tune in next week to hear how subbing for a Spanish class and advising teachers who have WAY more experience than me goes. I can't guarantee anything remarkable, but definitely something silly and thoughtful.
Til next time, faithful reader.
